Shoe box Project 2015

350 shoe boxes transformed into gift boxes.

Founding:

The original idea was taken from De Samaritaan Foundation Actie4Kids  Stichting De Samaritaan .

Since 2013, in the period leading up to Christmas we’ve been decorating and filling shoe boxes, to distribute as Christmas gifts among the Roma children living in very poor conditions.

We work together with Dirk and Nicole Weyts (Romosel village) and Metro Ministries (several villages in the Sighisoara neighborhood). In 2014, 300 gift boxes were distributed. This year we had 350. Thanks to Stedelijke Basisschool Noord Hulste, Christengemeente Ichthus Kortrijk and lots of volunteers who helped us decorate and fill shoe boxes.

How to participate or support us?

Several primary schools cooperate and motivate their children to decorate boxes and fill them with presents. But also families and individuals help us out. Groups and schools willing to cooperate, please contact us. Cf. below.

STEP 1   Find a shoe box or ask us for a standard cardboard box. (easy stacking for transport)

STEP 2  Decorate the box. For example, with giftwrap paper, scraps, drawings… (do not use paint, due to difficulties)

STEP 3  Determine who the box is for: Boy or girl, 2-4 year old, 5-7 year old, 8-10 year old, 11-12 year old or 13-14 year old. Write it on the inside of the lid.

STEP 4 Fill the box with usable, clean stuff you have at home or collect from friends or family. Acceptable items: toys, cars, dolls, colouring pencils, pencil cases, pencils, erasers, pencil sharpeners, hair pins, self-made drawing or piece of art. Care products, toothpaste, toothbrush, soap, brush or comb, towels…

Not acceptable items: perishable goods (food)

STEP 5  Deliver the box but DO NOT SEAL IT OFF. We often add things to it.
